Commissioner Grunshaw and MP discuss tackling crime in South Ribble

Clive Grunshaw, Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, joined officers in Penwortham alongside the local Member of Parliament, Paul Foster, discussing local policing concerns and how they can work together to make South Ribble safer.

This visit provided an opportunity for the Commissioner and Paul to see firsthand how officers are responding to community issues, and discussed some of the current hot spot areas and main crime concerns.

These issues included anti-social behaviour, particularly the use of e-scooters which the Commissioner has been working with Government to address, alongside shoplifting and other retail crimes.

Commissioner Grunshaw emphasised his ongoing commitment to enhancing neighbourhood policing by increasing the visibility of officers on the streets and within the communities they serve, aiming to reduce crime and improve public trust.

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw remarked:

“It’s clear that residents and their MP rightly want a strong police presence that encourages positive engagement with local officers, with them proactively addressing the issues that are being raised. We discussed how Op Centurion is tackling some of the specific problems around anti-social behaviour, whilst Op Vulture is seeing a more robust response to shoplifting.

“While there is always more to be done, it’s encouraging to hear about the proactive measures taken by the local inspector and neighbourhood team to address what matters most to people such as anti-social behaviour and shoplifting.

“As Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, I will continue to work closely with the Chief Constable, ensuring the safety of Lancashire residents, ensuring that through strong leadership we deliver the effective policing we all want to see.”

Paul Foster MP said: “I was really pleased to meet the PCC Clive Grunshaw last week in Penwortham, we discussed a range of issues from anti-social behaviour to shop lifting and various other challenges the community are facing.

“I reiterated my desire to see a more visible police presence on the streets of South Ribble and Chorley Rural West. I look forward to working closely with Clive over the coming years to make the constituency a safer place for all.”
