Commissioner Meets with Government Minister to Tackle Violence Against Women and Girls

During the meeting in London, they explored the progress being made in Lancashire to reduce the number of victims and improve outcomes for those affected by violence. They also reviewed key proposals within the Crime and Policing Bill currently moving through Parliament, including enhanced protections against stalking and measures to address spiking.

The conversation also looked ahead to future opportunities to strengthen legislation, supporting the Government’s ambition to halve incidents of violence against women and girls within the next decade.

Since taking office, Commissioner Grunshaw has established a dedicated VAWG MP Group. This initiative brings together Lancashire MPs, their constituency teams, and the commissioner’s Office, to share insights, address casework, and support both policing and prevention efforts.

Clive Grunshaw, Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire, said:

“It was valuable to speak with Jess Phillips about the work already underway in Lancashire, where we are taking a zero-tolerance approach to violence against women and girls. Our focus is on securing justice for victims, encouraging reporting, breaking cycles of abuse, and preventing harm before it happens.

“We must ensure perpetrators are held fully accountable, which is why we discussed the Crime and Policing Bill’s proposals to better protect vulnerable people and make our streets safer. Collaboration is key—locally and nationally—to safeguarding women and girls.

“Our new VAWG MP Group is just one example of how we’re building stronger partnerships to support victims, disrupt offending, and drive meaningful change. As the public’s voice in policing, I remain committed to ensuring every action we take delivers the best possible outcomes for the people of Lancashire.”
