Lancashire PCC and Cat Smith MP Join Officers on the Beat in Lancaster

During the visit, the Commissioner and the MP spoke with officers about concerns raised by local residents, including the unlawful use of e-scooters and e-bikes in the town centre.

The visit comes as part of the Safer Streets Summer initiative. The Home Office initiative, led locally by Police and Crime Commissioners, Chief Constables and local authorities brings together police and partner agencies to target reductions in town centre theft, street crime, and antisocial behaviour through high‑visibility policing and public engagement.

Following the visit, PCC Clive Grunshaw said:

“A key part of my role working across the whole of Lancashire to protect the public, is working with stakeholders like local Members of Parliament to discuss local issues and how we can work together to make the county safer.

“It was great to join Cat in Lancaster to see first-hand how the Safer Streets Summer initiative is having a positive impact. Lancaster has a vibrant town centre, and it’s vital we keep it safe and welcoming.

“As Police and Crime Commissioner, I will continue to work closely with the Constabulary to ensure they have the resources they need to tackle local issues head on, and by collaborating with MPs across Lancashire, we can ensure these concerns are heard at a national level.”

Cat Smith, MP for Lancaster and Wyre, said:

“It was great to join Clive for a walkabout in Lancaster city centre, alongside two of our fantastic local officers.

“The dangerous and illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters in pedestrian areas are an issue across Lancaster, and I was pleased to discuss with Clive how Lancashire Police are working to tackle the issue.”
